The existing school building
A new primary school for the deeply underprivileged children of the Srae Nouy Commune, Varin District, Cambodia.
The children currently attend an existing school 80km from Siem Reap which has 90 students and 4 teachers. We plan to build a brand new school that will vastly improve the day to day lives of the students but also attract better teachers and more children.
Without our support for a new building the children would continue to use an outdated, insufficient and unsafe building with a very low standard of education.
This is an opportunity to build a brand new school and provide the catalyst needed to bring the level of education up and provide the children of the community with some real chances at life.
A local organisation “Kulen Outreach” https://kulenoutreach.org/ , with whom I plan to work with further in the future, suggest that they can support the teachers with a small supplementary salary in addition to the ministry of education (MOE) salary in order to attract teachers who are accredited with a university degree. Most rural schools only have associate, unqualified teachers.
Kulen Outreach will also provide materials for learning.
We would be working with a gentlemen called David Cole who is the Director of Building Trust International, a non-profit architectural firm based in Cambodia. They have just completed a beautiful and high impact project in Siem Reap, we will be using the same construction team for our project, you can see there recent school campus project and its timeline here: http://ateliercole.com/kulenschool.html
Budget estimate is 30,000 USD and once we confirm interest in this project, a full budget and timeline will be produced.
